Law firm acknowledges associate
Family lawyer at Maroochydore-based Garland Waddington, Micaela Chomley, was recently made an Associate in recognition for her achievements within the firm and the community.
Since joining the team nearly two years ago, Micaela has developed the family law stream from small beginnings into a very productive and busy core-service offering for the company.
Micaela said becoming an Associate is a humbling experience because it not only recognises the time, energy and good job she is doing, it also reinforces her passion for helping people.
“Clients are often in a pretty dark situation when they first come to me and I love being able to help them see the light at the end of the tunnel,” Ms Chomley said.
“Helping clients to sort out their family law problems and to understand their entitlements empowers them and enables them to move on with their lives. This is really satisfying for me.”
Whilst there is a number of firms offering family law services across the region, what makes Micaela stand out from the crowd is that she is the first Sunshine Coast lawyer to work in the field of Collaborative Law, which supports separating couples to come to mutually-agreed financial and custody outcomes without court proceedings.
“Collaborative Law is a much smoother option for managing a separation, without the associated costs, delays and emotional hardship of waiting for a judicial ruling,” Ms Chomley said.
“We find that this process works best for people who want to spare their children from the emotional damage of the breakup and create the best outcomes for their families.
“I’ve run some free community workshops this year on Collaborative Law and all events have been booked out events because people are seeing the need to separate in a different way in order to minimise the long-term effects on their children and their family as a whole.”
Partner at Garland Waddington, Brendan Bathersby, said promoting Micaela to an Associate was a ‘no brainer’ because she had been an asset to the firm since her inception.
“Micaela is a true shining light in our team. Clients tell us she is empathetic, friendly and a great listener, quick to build trust and she brings a common sense approach to the legal table,” Mr Bathersby said.
“Micaela is also serious about advancing her career. She is close to completing her Masters in Family Law this year and next year, she has set the goal to achieve specialist accreditation in Family Law.”
Garland Waddington has been delivering high-end legal solutions to clients on the Sunshine Coast and across Queensland for more than 35 years.
The community-focused and progressive team of lawyers not only specialises in family law, but also boasts some of the best legal experience on offer for clients in the building and construction industry, business and commercial, wills and estates, property and conveyancing, and litigation.
